To bring forth this problem to the society, Oscar Wilde uses a character Dorian Gray, who is of the belief that pleasure must be the pursuit of life.
Rationality as the spirit of the age is demeaned and the protagonist believes that logic and reason destroy the peace of soul.
An artist Basil paints a timeless and most beautiful portrait of a young man Dorian Gray. .
The beauty portrayed in the picture is undeniable and irresistible that it makes the seeker crave it.
The result of such recreation realizes Gray of his own beauty which he wishes to never perish.
His wish is granted and instead of his handsome face, the portrait starts to age with time.
But eventually Gray realizes that the sins he commits in the pursuit of pleasure they mark their existence on the portrait; with some hideous scars and aging wrinkles.
He hides the truth from the painter and the society and continues to live his sinful life.
However there comes a time in his life when his youthful face starts fearing death and he decides to finally change his life.
But a sinful man like him, meets a tragic end and he writes it with his own hands. .
